MY VIEW

As I write this it is a Monday in mid-March, and I am pleased to report that our California 5-year drought has definitely come to an end.  It has rained so much during the last two weeks that we had begun to look for an old bearded man named Noah! Seriously we have beautiful sunshine with a high temperature in the mid 60s today. A lovely spring day.  I hope it is equally lovely where you live.

Today I want to emphasize self-talk; specifically talking to yourself, looking deeply into your eyes, while nose to nose looking into a mirror. It is a powerful and yet easy and simple self-healing technique. Have you noticed that many healing tools fall into the categories of easy and simple? Unfortunately we have a tendency to make them difficult and complicated.

Listen up! You don't even have to believe in it for it to work, because it bypasses your conscious mind. Remember hearing or reading that the eyes are the windows to the soul? They truly are. When we look into our own eyes, and talk to our self, we are talking directly to our soul (or higher self), however that is for you.

I learned this technique from Louise Hay, founder of the enormously successful publishing company Hay House, many years ago.

In the first book I wrote in 1997 about my MS experience, From MS to Wellness, I wrote:

Talk to yourself!  -  Every day look deep into your eyes in a mirror and talk to your inner self and your body.  Talk to the molecules and cells of your body.  Tell them to correct themselves to be perfect and whole.   If you do not like your body, sit nude in front of the mirror every day and learn to appreciate your body.  Tell your body "thank you" for how well it has served you.  Spend a few minutes talking to your soul, or higher self, as well as your body,  just before you go to sleep every night.

I have also always emphasized the art of forgiveness in all my books. I believe that one of the most important causes of all dis-ease in our body is unresolved conflicts.

In Michael and Me: Creating a Healthy, Abundant and Joyful Life, I gave a short forgiveness exercise. I have since come to know that this simple exercise originated with Hawaiian Shamans, and they called it Ho'oponopono. It is very simple.  "I love you. I am sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you."

I was thinking about these two techniques and it occurred to me that they could be combined and applied to PEOPLE, PLACES and THINGS that we might need to forgive. I believe the most important person we need to forgive is always ourselves.

A couple of weeks ago I posted the following on my Facebook page:

"Ever wished for a potent magic nutritional formula that would never fail you?  And that the FDA would never review negatively?  If you are anything like me you'd say, where do I find it. I have good news for you . . . there is such a formula; while not really magic, it is available to each one of us, is very reliable, and works every time.

It works like an antioxidant, so it is an anti-aging formula too. And the best part, it is FREE. Such a deal! Ready for the formula? It is forgiveness, and this formula adapts to any area of negativity in our lives.  I now call it the Mirror Forgiveness Technique. Here's how it works.  You simply stand or sit nose to nose in front of a mirror, look deep into your eyes, and say:

            I love you __________.
            I am sorry __________.
            Please forgive me.
            Thank you.

Take an issue in your life - person, place or thing - with whom you have a challenge, and fill in the blanks.  I have taught the "Talking to Yourself in a Mirror" technique for many years, but have only recently discovered the magic of combining it with this simple forgiveness formula.  Recently when I had several months of recovery from extensive surgery and could do no exercise, I was flabbergasted to discover that during those months I had gained some unwanted pounds. I decided to apply this Mirror Forgiveness Technique, and in a week I lost three pounds! It really does work."

Remember, you may use this technique on any challenge - be it a person, a place, or a thing.  Pain is one that comes to mind, or a particular body part. It makes no difference what or who the challenge may be.

In my case I simply said,

"I love you body.  I really love you.  I know that I have not always supported you in the best and most effective way.  I am sorry - truly sorry.  Please forgive me.  Thank you, thank you."

A few tips.  You should repeat the technique several times, with intention, so that you generate the emotions of forgiveness.  Five times may be enough, or it may take 50 times or more.  You will know when you have repeated it enough times because you will become emotional. I also repeat the technique several times as I drift off to sleep, talking to my body.

I have a challenge for each one of you. Pick an issue in your life, follow the guidelines, and you will see how it works for you. If you need some support, send me an e-mail.  I'm here to help you.

EVERY ONE OF YOU CAN DO THIS!!  Please then write me a report to share in the next newsletter.

FACEBOOK

I am finally getting around to learning how to use Facebook effectively.  Please, please, if you are not a "friend" on my Facebook page, you are missing out.  And more and more I am going to use Facebook. Watch for a weekly post on my page.

You must have a Facebook account before you can access other accounts (like mine). If you don't wish to use a Facebook account yourself, then just set yours up to be private.  During the setup process you have many options for who can access your page.  You may always keep yours totally private, but you can read and post on other pages.

If you have questions about Facebook, please ask.  If I don't know the answer, I will certainly find one for you. Thank you all for doing this.

GEMS FROM THE INTERNET:

Whatever you're thinking about is literally like planning a future event. When you're worrying, you are planning. When you're appreciating you are planning...What are you planning?

Remember you become what you think about. Why think of yourself in any way that leads to less-than-perfect health? What’s the point in looking at your body in its current condition of disrepair and taking on a set of beliefs guaranteed to make matters worse?

RESEARCH NEWS from Karen

*   There is a fascinating report regarding the predictability of who is likely to develop what we identify as multiple sclerosis.  It is a little long to read, but well worth the time.  Especially if you come from what I call an MS family, as I do, or if you are a young parent and are concerned about your children being susceptible.  Here is the link:

A FAVORITE RECIPE

Crusted Honey Mustard Chicken

Serves: 4

I added a twist to these baked, not fried chicken breasts by coating them with honey mustard before dipping them into Panko crumbs. So crisp, so tasty, so good.

Non-stick cooking spray

2/3 c. lite honey mustard dressing

1/8 t. table salt

1/8 t. black pepper

2 t. dill, freshly chopped

1 medium uncooked scallion, finely sliced

1 c. Panko bread crumbs

1 pound uncooked boneless skinless chicken breasts, four 4 oz pieces

Preheat oven to 400F. Line a shallow pan with foil, prayed with non-stick cooking spray.

In a small bowl, combine honey mustard dressing, salt, pepper, dill and scallions; remove 1/3 cup and set aside.

Place Panko crumbs in a shallow bowl. Dip chicken into dressing mixture and then Panko crumbs; place in prepared pan.

Bake until chicken is golden and no longer pink in center, about 20 minutes.

Drizzle remaining dressing mixture (the 1/3 cup that was set aside) over chicken breasts and serve. Yields 1 piece of chicken and about 1 1/3 tablespoons of dressing per serving.

NOTE: I make my own honey mustard dressing with mayo and a little honey and mustard thinned with milk to desired consistency for dressing.  Taste to adjust the tangy flavor. It doesn't take but about a rounded teaspoon of mustard to about half a cup or more of mayo. (This also makes an excellent dipping sauce for fish sticks or chicken tenders.) If you don't happen to have honey, you may just use mayo and mustard.

I do not know from where I acquired this recipe, but it is very good. It may very well have originated with Kraft Foods.
